We started with this lovely heritage breed! We selected them because they are a dual purpose bird and of course have striking color! It is one of Americas oldest breeds and they lay a large brown egg. They are sweet natured and so lovely to be around, and do well in our Canadian environment!
Egg Production: 280 Eggs Per year
Egg Color/Size: Light brown Medium-Large Eggs
My love of the polish birds started when I acquired two standard polish hens from Amarantine Ranch! From there I needed more of these entertaining and fancy birds! Whether you want to show or just spruce up your coop these guys are a must have!
The Swedish Flower was a breed I seen on occasion and did not look too far into until I got one from Amarantine Ranch. The little hen was so sweet and hardy I knew I needed more, not to mention her color was stunning! They lay a large cream colored to pale brown egg and are unique because they are a landrace breed meaning they were not engineered by man; instead adapted to their environment!
When I went to the Mutt Hutt and seen her Wyndottes I knew I needed to add some to our flock. These large layers are known to be great winter producers and are generally hardy birds well suited for our Canadian climate due to their rose comb, plumage and good body size. We have kept back the most refined lacing and quality birds to contribute to our breeding program!
This relatively new breed that produces Blue Eggs. They have a varying feather pattern, coloration, and leg color. Hen's are excellent layers with their egg size and eggs per year rivaling any production bird (i.e. Leghorns). They also typically begin laying promptly at 5 months of age and they free range well. Note: Whitings are not Araucanas, Ameraucanas, or 'Easter Eggers' — they are their own breed.
Like their silver laced relatives these excellent dual purpose birds are a great addition to any homestead! They add some color while pulling their weight with egg production and dressed weight!
Every farm needs some silkies! These cute fluffs are so easily tamed, fun, and come in a variety of colors! We have picked out our best birds to continue are line, starting at just days old threw to maturity
How cute at these guys! My quest for sebrights took me all over but I am very excited to have a nice little grouping of breeding birds that even successfully hatched their own chicks last year! What a surprise! These little birds are friendly, smart (sometimes too smart) and so lovely to look at!
Because I loved my Polish so much it only made sense to get the bantam verison and they didn't disappoint, same great temperment, fun appearance and all in a compact cute size!
We dapple in call ducks keeping mostly white and snowy calls. These cute little ducks are perfect in my opinion for anyone wanting to keep ducks but not have the mess that comes with some of the larger breeds.
What can I say... who love the peacocks. These gorgeous birds are a must have for any bird enthusiast. .
These beautiful birds were developed as a exhibition bird in the late 1800s and they quickly became popular because of their stunning looks!
These smaller sized geese only weigh about 10 pounds when mature, and although they can be used for meat and eggs they are usually kept as a ornamental breed!
